How to Download WhatsApp Status with GB WhatsApp
You see a funny video or a beautiful photo in someone’s status, and 24 hours later it’s gone. In official WhatsApp, saving it means screenshots, screen recording or asking the person to send it. GB WhatsApp has a built-in status downloader that saves photos and videos straight to your phone with one tap.
This guide shows how to use it, where saved files go, and what to do when downloads fail.
What You Can Save
| Status type | Can GB WhatsApp save it? |
|---|---|
| Photo status | Yes |
| Video status | Yes |
| Text status | Copy the text instead |
| Voice status | Depends on the build |
| Your own status | Yes |
For text status, see our guide to copying status captions and text.
How to Download a Status
- Open GB WhatsApp and go to the Updates or Status tab.
- Tap a contact’s status to open it.
- Look for the download icon, usually an arrow at the top or bottom of the screen.
- Tap it. The photo or video saves to your phone.
In some builds, you long-press the status in the list or tap the three-dot menu while viewing it, then choose Download or Save.
Where Saved Statuses Are Stored
Saved statuses usually go to your phone’s gallery, in a folder such as GBWhatsApp Statuses or Saved Status. If you can’t find them:
- Open your gallery app and check Albums.
- Use your file manager to search for “Status”.
- Look inside the GBWhatsApp folder, under Media.
Download Status Without Being Seen
Opening a status normally adds your name to the viewer list. If you want to save a status without the person knowing you watched it, turn on hide status view first. Our guide on viewing status secretly explains how.
Save Statuses Before They’re Deleted
If someone posts a status and then deletes it, you might miss it. Turn on anti-delete status in GB Settings, Privacy and Security, so statuses you’ve already loaded stay available. See our anti-delete guide for details.
Status Download Not Working?
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| No download button | Update to the latest GB WhatsApp build |
| Download fails | Check storage space and media permission |
| Saved file not in gallery | Look in the GBWhatsApp Media folder or search for Status |
| Video saves without sound | Let the video fully load before downloading |
| Permission error | Allow photos and videos access in Settings, Apps, GB WhatsApp, Permissions |
On Android 13 and newer, GB WhatsApp needs separate permission for photos and videos. If saving fails, check it’s allowed.
Other Ways to Save Status
- Media folder: viewed statuses are temporarily stored in a hidden .Statuses folder. Some file managers can show hidden folders.
- Screen recording: works for any status but lowers quality.
- Ask the person: the most respectful option for personal photos.
The built-in downloader is the fastest and keeps the original quality.
Respect Other People’s Content
Statuses are meant to be temporary. Saving funny videos for yourself is common, but re-sharing someone’s personal photos without asking can damage trust. Think about the person who posted it before forwarding or reposting.
Is It Safe?
The status downloader works on your device and doesn’t notify the other person. It doesn’t add ban risk beyond normal GB WhatsApp use. Keep the app updated with our GB WhatsApp update guide.
Save Multiple Statuses Quickly
When a contact posts several updates, you can save them one by one as you tap through. Some builds also show a save option in the status list when you long-press a contact, letting you save all their current updates at once. Check your build’s options.
Organize Saved Statuses
Saved statuses can pile up quickly in your gallery. Keep them tidy:
- Create albums for funny clips, recipes, quotes and family moments.
- Delete duplicates regularly.
- Move favorites to cloud storage to free up space.
Status Downloads and Storage
Videos take a lot of space. If your phone storage is getting full, check the GBWhatsApp statuses folder in your file manager and delete clips you no longer need. Clearing these doesn’t affect your chats.
Downloading Status on Android 11 and Newer
Newer Android versions restrict which folders apps can access. Saved statuses may land in a slightly different place depending on your Android version and build. If you can’t find them, search your files for “Status” or check the Android, media folder inside the GB WhatsApp package folder.
Save Your Own Status Updates
You can also save your own status to keep a copy after 24 hours. Open My status, view the update, and tap download. This is useful if you created a video directly in the status camera and didn’t save it elsewhere.
Share Saved Statuses Thoughtfully
If you want to share something from a friend’s status in another chat, it’s polite to ask first, especially for personal photos and videos. For public content like news clips or memes, sharing is usually fine.
Conclusion
GB WhatsApp’s status downloader makes saving photos and videos as easy as tapping a button. Combine it with hide status view and anti-delete status for full control, check permissions if downloads fail, and use the feature with respect for the people who post.
